    The Big Bang Theory

    The Big Bang Theory

Rainy season is here, and it has come in with a bang. Heavy rains have muddied our time here in Puerto Viejo on the last leg of our Costa Rican journey. The wet and humid atmosphere on the Caribbean Coast has brought out an abundance of eager mosquitos as well, feasting on us at all hours of the day; I have so many bites, I’ve actually lost count. To boot, we had no running water in all of Talamanca the other day, leaving us unable to use toilets, showers, or do dishes. Plus
    Peñas Blancas Border Experience

    Peñas Blancas Border Experience

When travelling through multiple countries on a budget, one must say goodbye to international flights and hello to crossing borders on foot. It sounds daunting for sure, but our first experience doing so in Peñas Blancas to and from Nicaragua/Costa Rica was actually pretty cool. The immigration officers were lovely people on both sides, crossing on foot felt like we were crossing the finish line of a marathon, and the whole process went pretty quickly...which was nice. Things

Someone once told me that the best way to reach a big goal is to set a series of small goals. I never truly appreciated this concept until I stepped off the plane, beginning this 6 month Latin America trip. It was the series of small goals that Thomas and I set over and over again, that brought us here...we are finally here! To reap the fruits of our labour, is the most amazing feeling. Today is day 4 in our first destination; Playa del Coco, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We actual

    And it Begins...

Often times when you read a travel blog, the story starts with, “I decided to quit my job and backpack through (insert destination here)". While this immediately inspires, it’s a bit glossy. No one just makes a snap decision and takes off the next day, unless they can afford to, of course. The average person, or couple, with average income(s) goes through quite a journey, before their journey. Thomas and I decided over a year ago that we wanted to travel through Central and S

Ah Costa Rica! Pura Vida mis amigos! The land of great coffee, surfing, and massive amounts of reserves/national parks. The people are friendly and welcoming, the food is rich and homely, and the streets literally have no names. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sounds of tropical rain, waking up in the middle of the night to the sounds of howler monkeys losing their sh*t, and waking up at the ass crack of dawn to the sounds of thousands of birds all shouting a

    Monkey See, Monkey Don't

I write this from a breakfast counter at our airbnb in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. It’s all fun and games now, but getting here has been a series of lessons. Do’s and don’ts have been abundant, with the scales tipping on the don’ts. To even explain why we’re here, I have to go all the way back to January 2017. When Thomas and I first decided to travel, we were so excited that we bought airfare right away, when we had planned to leave December 1st of the same year. The thinking wa
